Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 103 newly redeveloped railway stations across India on May 22 through video conferencing. Among these, three stations in West Bengal—Panagarh, Kalyani Ghoshpara, and Joychandi Pahar—will be inaugurated. These stations have been developed under the Central Government’s ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,’ which aims to modernize railway infrastructure nationwide by upgrading passenger amenities and station facilities.
Panagarh and Kalyani Ghoshpara stations fall under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway, while Joychandi Pahar station comes under South Eastern Railway. All three stations have undergone comprehensive redevelopment, including modernization of passenger facilities, major improvements in station interiors, and updated designs. A railway official said, “These stations have been completely redeveloped. Passenger facilities have been modernized here, and there have been major changes in the interior decoration and design of the stations.” Another official added that the redevelopment prioritizes enhancing passenger experience, improving accessibility, and implementing sustainable design.
Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a total of 100 railway stations in West Bengal are being upgraded with modern facilities. The initiative is part of a broader effort to raise the quality of Indian Railways’ infrastructure to world-class standards. The redevelopment focuses on improving travel comfort while also supporting local economic development through better station environments and accessibility.
